Looking through my iTunes library feels like standing in front of a buffet – everything looks appetizing. Still, I often go back to the same old ‘dish’: Bring Me The Horizon.
Bring Me The Horizon, or BMTH for short, is a British rock band formed in 2003. Currently, the band consists of vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls, and keyboardist Jordan Fish.
Their debut album, Count Your Blessings, has been described as Deathcore, but their style has shifted to an eclectic metalcore in later albums. Some of their outstanding songs since then include Can You Feel My Heart, Blessed with a Curse, Drown, True Friends and Follow You.
That’s the Spirit, BMTH’s latest album, is perhaps less aggressive, with more singing and less screaming. Though this has lost them some older fans, I definitely love their new sound.
Personally, I enjoy the honesty and raw emotions in their songs, portrayed both through the lyrics and melody. Sykes manages to balance screamo and singing, pulling off the perfect combination of both.
Bring Me The Horizon will be playing live in Singapore in September – I wouldn’t miss it if I were you!
