It’s 2012, and the Mark of Athena had just come out.
Percy and Annabeth fell into Tartarus, leaving us to wait a whole year just to find out what happens next. I’m not sure about you, but I spent most of that year coming up with how they could get out of Tartarus and win the war with the aid of the other members of the Seven (plus Nico) in just one more book – House of Hades must be the last installment in the series, after all.
Then the actual book came out, introducing something drastically different from what I had pictured. Bob the friendly Titan was an unexpected, but pleasant, surprise. The romantic developments? Not so much. Rick Riordan would only write one House of Hades, though, and there’s only so many versions of it written by fanfiction authors out there, none of which sat quite so right by me. Which prompted me to pick up the pen and write one for myself.
It started with wanting to read more about what happened before, after and during missing scenes in between works already out there. Books, movies, comics, anime – anything fictional that caught my interest had me going on to write drabbles and notes, which would grow into stories.
Years down the road, this had grown into writing for ideas beyond those defined by pre-existing works. Both the way I write and the things I write about has changed, but one thing hasn’t.
It’s the reason why I write: because I want to read something that hasn’t been written.
(of course, that excludes the pieces I have to write for school)
