StAR Day 2024: Ms Caroline Gordon

1. It’s a normal day at work, before you get a call from your colleague. It’s an emergency. You need to come deal with your students ASAP. What trouble are they most likely to have gotten into?

I’m actually quite lucky and my students are all well behaved … my guess would be that it’s probably a medical emergency.

2. After taking care of the situation, you return to your desk and sigh deeply. If you had not become a teacher, you would now be _______ instead.

Pilot or Detective (because I love True Crime/crime stories and figuring out who did it and why/how)

3. Never mind, you shrug off the stress from the morning and go to lunch. Where and what are you eating? And who are you eating with?

If I do go out for lunch, it would be with Ms Koh … somewhere nearby … quite often, it’s chicken rice.

4. You are about to tuck into your meal when you notice a strand of hair in your food. Do you: A) Pick out the hair and eat the meal, it’s no big problem. B) Inform the store owner and get a replacement. C) Complain to your friend but pick out the hair and eat the meal anyway. D) Eat the hair. E) None of the above.

B or C

5. After lunch, you return to continue your work. What task are you most dreading and/or what task are you most looking forward to?

I look forward to classroom teaching the most …. and well, I don’t enjoy long meetings/exam invigilation.

6. This is when you notice a strange letter placed on your desk. You open it and it says: I regret to inform you that you have been fired. Please clear your desk by next week. How do you feel?

Hahaha! and then if I actually take it seriously, I would probably go see Ms Bay because she’s my boss, and ask her why ….

7. You turn the letter over… and it says “Just joking! Happy StAR Day! Thank you for all your hard work and the school will not be same without you!” How do you feel?

Depending on the day and how I feel, I may either feel elated or disappointed. Hahaha! (more laughter)
