The Two Rivers

The city of Ferzane knew two rivers.
Two rivers with no visible distinctions
Two rivers which flanked opposite sides of the city walls
Two rivers which would meet before parting once again.

Two rivers with true origins untold
Two rivers which would go far beyond the horizons
Two rivers which juncture, so slight they seemed just side by side,
Allowed for sharing in amounts unknown.

Without sufficient resources to test or venture,
The citizens of Ferzane only knew
That each river carried some of the other’s original
Before leading different paths to their own fates.

Alas, despite imaginations unbridled,
Not one had managed to correctly surmise,
That while one river flowed to the vast ocean,
The other led to a perilous cliff before the desert.
